Greenacres’ very own Christmas elves have been hard at work making a special surprise for sick kids in Wollongong Hospital’s Children’s Ward today.

The Kickstart Careers participants came up with the idea of a Pyjama Party fundraiser for the Children’s Ward during one of their fortnightly participant-led meetings. They set themselves the goal of raising enough money to buy 30 presents for kids aged 5 to 10-years-old and a Distraction Box filled with games and craft for teenagers.

Not only was the Pyjama Party they organised in the Kickstart Centre a fun night for the 30 participants who attended, the Kickstart crew raised an impressive $435 from ticket fees and extra donations.

Kickstart Careers participant, Eliza Warner said she was very proud of what they had achieved and couldn’t wait to deliver the gifts to the hospital.

A group of us went shopping for the presents which was fun, Eliza said. I tried to remember what I liked playing with most when I was a little girl.

I can’t wait to see how happy they are getting their presents when we deliver them to the hospital, I think they will definitely smile when they see what we got them.

As well as giving sick children a wonderful surprise, by raising the money and coordinating the gifts, the Kickstart Career elves succeeded in working as a team and improved their planning, organisation and leadership skills.
