Once again the Greenacres M2M Challenge, held on Sunday July 29, was a huge success. The weather was perfect, the atmosphere was amazing and close to 1000 participants made it over the finish line.
Last year’s winner, Jeff Chasling, was first again with a time of 52.05, followed by new comers Thomas Kiprotich and Marcus Cockshutt. The first woman across the line was Sophie Bennett, with former M2M Challenge female winner, Sally Towse, coming second.
The majority of participants, though, were walkers who took the opportunity to soak up the views from Robertson’s Lookout, enjoy the atmosphere and appreciate a special part of Wollongong not usually accessible for walking.
The new seven kilometre short-course was also popular with over 160 people being bussed to the top of Mt Keira to start their challenge. It was great to see so many Greenacres participants taking part!
While the final tally is not yet in, Greenacres will be using the close to $70,000 raised so far to purchase a desperately needed new truck for Greenacres Enterprises.
I would like to thank the M2M Challenge team for all their hard work, as well as the many volunteers who ensured the event ran smoothly; our generous sponsors; the communities of Mt Keira and Mt Kembla; the first aid and emergency services; the people who participated and everybody who generously donated.
