The cake may have said ‘Happy Retirement Neil’ but we all know you can never really retire from the Greenacres family, especially if you have been a part of it since the very beginning!
After a lifetime with Greenacres, we said goodbye to Neil Shepherd yesterday as he transitioned into full-time retirement.
The Shepherd family were instrumental in establishing Greenacres. In 1953, when there was no accessible school in Wollongong for kids with intellectual disabilities, Alan and Neil’s parents worked tirelessly with other parents to create Greenacres School so that their boys could have a chance of an education.
The Shepherd brothers were part of the first group of employees to work at the Greenacres employment facility in the 1960s and in 2003, Neil and Alan were the first to join Greenacres Retirement Options – our world-leading transition to retirement program.
At a morning tea in his honour, Neil was presented with a photo book so that he can always remember his life at Greenacres and the many friends he made.
Neil will be greatly missed by everyone, including his former workmates and his friends from Greenacres Retirement Options (GRO).
