We don’t know how we manage it but for the fifth year in a row we woke up to a perfect winter’s morning for the Greenacres M2M Challenge cloudless blue sky, no wind and plenty of sunshine. The weather couldn’t have been better, the atmosphere was amazing and, aching legs aside, close to 1000 participants made it over the finish line without a hitch.
While a familiar face to the M2M Challenge, first time winner Claire Rayner, was the first woman across the line with a time of 59.34, a young newcomer, teenager Daniel Hungerford was the first male over the line with a time of 56.27. Close on Daniel’s heels were Scott Martin 56.47 and Rohan Ashton 57.38. Incredibly, the second female across the line was Celeste Carolan who at 11-years-old is still in primary school!
The majority of participants though were walkers who took the opportunity to soak up the beautiful views, taking panoramic shots and plenty of selfies along the way. They not only got to enjoy the atmosphere but also had the unique chance to appreciate a special part of Wollongong which is usually only accessible by car.
While the final tally is not yet in, Greenacres will be using the around $70,000 raised so far to assist in creating an innovative art space for our growing Outsider Artists program.
