Getting Ready for July 2017
The National Disability Insurance Scheme or NDIS will mean a big change in the way people with a disability are supported in Australia.
For the first time, people with a disability will have the power to design their life, choosing the exact support they need to reach their goals
and achieve their dreams.
As an organisation that prides itself on being innovative, Greenacres is excited about the opportunities the NDIS will bring, especially as the
scheme is the perfect fit for our mission to enrich lives by enabling choice.
While the scheme has been going since 2014 in some areas, the NDIS will not be rolled out in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven until July 2017.
Am I Eligible for the NDIS?
To be eligible for the NDIS you must be have a permanent disability which has a significant impact on everyday life and your ability to participate
in the community and also means that you need ongoing support.
You also must be under 65 years old and be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident or hold a Protected Special Category Visa.
What will happen when the NDIS is rolled out?
When the NDIS is rolled out in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven, the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) will provide you with a Support Planner
to work out your NDIS package and your support plan.
The Support Planner will look at your dreams and aspirations, work out what can be supported by your community, friends and family and what ‘reasonable
and necessary’ supports you will need to be funded by the NDIS.
